Inflation in Slovenia accelerated slightly in August, with consumer prices rising 3.0% compared with the same month last year, up from the 2.9% annual increase recorded in July.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.1% in August, reversing July’s 0.1% decline, according to the statistical office.

The largest contribution to annual inflation came from housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, where prices were 8.1% higher than a year earlier. The category added 1.0 percentage point to the overall inflation rate.

Transport prices increased by 4.7%, contributing 0.7 percentage points, while prices for recreation, sport and culture rose by 5.3%, adding another 0.5 percentage points to annual inflation.

HICP Inflation Also Rises

Slovenia’s EU-harmonised consumer price index (HICP) also recorded stronger inflation in August. HICP increased by 3.4% year-on-year, compared with 3.0% in July.

On a monthly basis, HICP rose by 0.3% in August, following a 0.3% decline in July.

During the first eight months of the year, Slovenia’s consumer price index increased by an average 3.0% compared with the same period a year earlier. HICP inflation stood at 3.1% over the same period.

Slovenia’s average annual inflation rate accelerated to 2.4% in 2025, up from 2.0% in 2024. HICP-measured inflation also increased, reaching 2.5% in 2025, compared with 2.0% the previous year.

The latest figures indicate continued price pressures in key household spending categories, particularly housing and energy, as inflation remains above the levels recorded in recent years.
