The Liberal Party is calling for tax measures that would make it easier and more affordable for households and individuals to adopt climate-friendly lifestyles.
Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari of the Liberals said the transition to a greener economy is taking place not only in industries and power generation but also in people's everyday lives.
“The climate transition is not only happening in steel mills and power plants. It is also happening in the garage driveway, on the commuter train and in the boiler room,” Pourmokhtari said in a written comment to TT.
Lower Costs for Electric Vehicle Users
Among the party's proposals is a reduction in taxes associated with charging electric vehicles.
The Liberals also want to increase the mileage reimbursement rate for people who use their own electric cars for business travel. The measure is intended to make electric vehicles more financially attractive for those who drive their personal cars for work-related journeys.
Another proposal would remove preferential tax treatment for public transport season tickets paid for by employers.
Incentives for Greener Homes
The party is also proposing additional tax deductions for households that replace direct-acting electric heating, oil heating or fossil-based heating systems with more climate-friendly alternatives.
In addition, the Liberals want to expand the existing green technology deduction, potentially allowing more households to receive financial support when investing in environmentally friendly technology.
The proposals are aimed at reducing the cost of climate-conscious choices while encouraging households to move towards cleaner transport and energy solutions.
