Both sides hit the woodwork in the first half as Virgil van Dijk saw his header come off the crossbar on 39 minutes before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg struck the outside of a post with a low shot for Spurs.
Son Heung-min put Spurs ahead on 56 minutes with his 20th league goal of the season, turning in Ryan Sessegnon’s pass following some excellent approach play from Harry Kane.
Son reached the 20-goal mark in the Premier League for the first time in his career with his strike at Anfield, beating his previous best of 17 from last season. He’s now two behind Mo Salah in the race for the Golden Boot and has now scored 90 top-flight goals for Tottenham Hotspur.
Diaz’s long-range, deflected shot drew Liverpool level on 74 minutes to set up a tense finish, but after Mohamed Salah had curled a shot wide and Hojbjerg had mis-directed a header late on, both defences held firm.
After dropping points at home for the first time since October, Liverpool are top with 83 points. They lead Man City, who host Newcastle United on Sunday, on goal difference.
Spurs stay fifth on 62 points, one behind Arsenal who play Leeds United on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte said,”It’s a good signal, because the players understood, they felt on the pitch that at the end, we lost the chance to get three important points. At the same time, I think they have to be delighted with the performance. I asked before the game for them to be strong defensively, to pay great attention. We prepared the game really well, in my opinion, and it was a pity to concede a goal from a deflection. Also, I asked with the ball to be brave, to show courage and personality, and every time we did this, we created problems for Liverpool. We have to try to continue to improve with the ball. It’s not easy to overcome the Liverpool pressure, but every time we did this, we created big problems for them.”
"I have seen in the eyes of my players a bit of disappointed" 🙁

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said ,”The expected game. It was always clear Tottenham would show up like they showed up. With all the individual quality they have and with the game plan they have, it was clear it would be incredibly difficult. It didn’t get easier when we conceded the goal. I was really happy with a lot of things in the game, to be honest. First half, the first 25 minutes, wow, crazy start, really, really good, put them under pressure, direction in our game, the passing in the game, the speed of the passes, it was really good but we didn’t score. Then it was always clear, you make one mistake and they are there. This next 20 minutes, around about, we said at half-time we could have shown more initiative in moments, just a little dribbling here, getting closer to their formation to keep them busy. We passed a little bit too early and these kind of things. All fine, but we could have caused more problems.
It is an important point because we have one point more than before the game, so that’s how it is. But we all know the situation. We are now top of the table. If you ask me, my favourite situation, it just stays like this with the same points tally, and City and us, we lose all the rest of the games in the Premier League and it stays like this. That would be great, but we all know it will not happen. So in this moment, we are disappointed. The boys are more disappointed than I am – it might be because of my age, because I saw pretty much everything already in my life.”
